Breeding Services

We have extensive experience in canine reproductive services. We can help from initial planning stages, timing of ovulation and artificial insemination whether it be fresh, chilled or frozen semen. Our clinic has developed a close relationship with Australian Reproductive Technologies and Beef Breeding Services canine branch, a Rockhampton based science technology company, that can assist us and can provide additional services including semen collection, processing or frozen storage.

Our advanced breeding services also include surgical insemination, and more recently we have started to undertake scope-assisted Transcervical insemination (TCI).

Surgical Insemination

In situations where the quality of the semen may be less than desirable, or if there are other limitations on breeding, some clients may opt for surgical insemination. This is performed under anaesthetic where an incision is made into the abdomen, the uterus identified, and the sample introduced directly into the reproductive tract.

Transcervical Insemination (TCI)

This procedure involves the introduction of a specialised catheter into the opening of the cervix to deposit the semen sample directly into the reproductive tract. The insemination is performed on an awake animal and so removes any risks associated with anaesthesia in these patients.

We are also very experienced and happy to assist with planned elective caesarian or emergency caesarians if required.
